I realize that I promised this blog would be about sports, and I will get to that, but I could not help but realize that I have gotten a real world lesson in public relations. As I mentioned in my last post I am the broadcaster for Southwest Baptist University. As part of that position, I host a weekly SBU Coach's Show from Breadeaux Pizza in Bolivar. This is obviously a sponsored event, by Breadeaux Pizza, and I have been working to promote the event and to make sure that people make it out to the show. I have served as the liason between the client and the radio station. The client was concerned with an aspect of the contract, and I had to work to fix the problem without ruffliung any feathers. I now feel like I have learned a little more what it means to work on an account, and how to take care of a client.
On to sports now...
The Major League Baseball playoffs are currently heating up, as we are now headed into the league championship series. In the American League, the Tamba Bay Rays continue to be the feel good story of the year. The Rays have a payroll of $43 million, and are going up against the Boston Red Sox, who have a payroll well over $100 million. The fact that a team can compete in baseball with as low of a payroll as the Rays have is a testament to developing players through the farm system. Rather or not the Rays will be able to resign those players is going to be a question for another day, but right now the Rays are trying to get to the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
In the National League the Philladelphia Phillies are going up against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The media would love to have a Red Sox-Dodgers World Series, because it would be the first time that Manny Rameriez would face his old team, since being traded from the Red Sox to the Dogers at the July 31st trade deadline. So I am most certainly rooting for the Rays and Phillies.
